![What is a hydrocarbon? What is a hydrocarbon?](https://rose-talaei.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/hydro.jpg)
Hydrocarbon is an organic compound that consists of only hydrogen and carbon atoms. Since carbon is in group 14 of the periodic table, they are also called group 14 hybrids.
Note that carbon has 4 electrons, which means it is stable by forming exactly 4 bonds. Another type of hydrocarbons are aromatic hydrocarbons, which include alkanes, cycloalkanes, and alkyne-based compounds. Hydrocarbons can be linked together to form more complex compounds such as cyclohexane.
The following are the most common of these materials
Conventional Hydrocarbons: Hydrocarbons
Methane (CH4)
ethane (C2H6)
Propane (C3H8)
Butane (C4H10)
Pentane (C5H12)
Hexane (C6H14)

These substances are a type of organic molecules. As mentioned, they are composed of only 2 elements: hydrogen and carbon, hence the name hydrocarbon. These substances are generally divided into four main types: alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, and aromatic hydrocarbons.
